Tony Soprano '88

Tony Soprano, Bishop Kearney Class of 1988, grew up as the youngest of four siblings—each one a proud BK graduate. Coming from St. Cecilia’s, attending Bishop Kearney felt like the natural next step, a place where he immediately felt comfortable, welcomed, and supported. His years as a student were marked by friendship, confidence-building, and a sense of belonging that has stayed with him ever since. He still keeps in touch with many of his classmates, a testament to the strong community BK helped create. The school’s motto, “Do All Things Well,” left an especially lasting impression; for Tony, it became a daily personal standard and one he still wakes up striving to meet.
After graduation, Tony attended Monroe Community College, where he was later inducted into the MCC Hall of Fame. He completed training at the Police Academy and began his career with the Sheriff’s Department before life led him in a different direction. What started as a part-time job “pushing a broom” with the DiMarco family grew into a lifelong career. Over the course of 34 years, Tony worked his way up to become Vice President of Planning and Production, a role that reflects both his determination and his commitment to excellence.
Tony’s dedication to the community extends far beyond his professional achievements. He has volunteered with MCC, served with the Associated Builders and Contractors on its national board, and given countless hours to Bishop Kearney as a board member and through its facilities committees. Whether helping with the student union, the boys’ hockey dorms, or numerous behind-the-scenes needs, Tony has consistently found ways to give back. His approach is simple but powerful: bring people together, get them involved, and show them that giving back is both meaningful and contagious.
Family remains at the heart of Tony’s life. Deeply rooted in Rochester, he comes from a close-knit Italian family, and his own immediate family continues that legacy. Married for 30 years to his wife, who spent two years at BK herself, Tony is the proud father of three children, each encouraged to follow their own unique path.
When asked what guidance he would offer young people today, Tony’s message is clear: “Surround yourself with great people and great things will happen.” He believes strongly that goodness is infectious.  He believes in the importance of seeking out great people, great environments, and great opportunities, and they will shape your life in extraordinary ways. He also reminds students that the path they imagine as kids is rarely the one they ultimately follow. His own journey stands as proof that unexpected turns often lead to the most fulfilling destinations.
As Tony reflects on receiving this honor, he is humbled to stand among the remarkable individuals whose portraits line the school’s walls. “There are great people on the wall,” he says, “and I guess I’ll be there too.” With decades of service, leadership, and unwavering support for Bishop Kearney, his legacy is firmly rooted in the very values the school strives to instill—faith, commitment, excellence, and community.  He will always be our favorite Tony Soprano.
