College Application Tools

 

Students should be actively working on their applications!

 

Pull Your Applications Together

  • Narrow your list of colleges to approximately five to eight, and review it with your counselor. Get an application and financial aid info from each. Visit as many as possible.
  • See Senior Calendar for deadlines
    • Test dates, fees and deadlines
    • College application due dates
    • Required financial aid applications and their deadlines
    • Recommendations, transcripts and other necessary materials
    • Bishop Kearney’s  deadlines for application requests

Applications must be turned in to the guidance office
2 weeks before
the application deadline!

  • Ask for recommendations. Give each person your resume, a stamped and addressed envelope, and any required forms.
  • Write application essays and ask  English teacher to review

Decide Whether to Apply Early Action or Early Decision

  • November 1: For early admission, colleges may require test scores and applications in early November.
  • Ask if your college offers an early estimate of financial aid eligibility.

Get Financial Aid Info

  • Attend financial aid info events in your area.
  • Talk to your counselor about CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE and learn about completing the PROFILE.
  • Use Scholarship Search, review scholarship books, and ask your counselor about local and state funding sources.
  • College Financial Aid night, November 16th at 6:30 in the school’s auditorium

Students who are applying to two year or four year schools can find helpful application tools on this page.  There are three types of applications that we find our students use the most.

Students who want to apply to two-year and four-year SUNY colleges can get the application online at www.SUNY.edu.  Students can use one application to apply up to four different state schools at once. 

The common application, www.commonapp.org  provides students with the option of applying to different private colleges with one application.  There are over 100 different privet schools to choose from. This application also allows students and parents to track when application materials are downloaded by the college admissions office.

Some schools will offer their own application for students to use.  It is up to the student to decide which application will work best for the
