It’s been a tremendous year for Bishop Kearney High School. I’m so proud to be part of the growth that is propelling this vibrant institution into the future.
As we prepare for the 2006-2007 school year, I’m pleased to reflect on the evolution of the past year and what it all means to the future of Bishop Kearney.
We’ve been in the news a lot in recent months. One of the most important moments in Bishop Kearney’s history came in the spring—when Tom Golisano showed his extraordinary generosity in providing our school its largest gift ever—because he saw the value in perpetuating the mission of Bishop Kearney. Mr. Golisano knew that his actions would directly benefit our students. It was one of the proudest moments when our student body erupted into a standing ovation at an assembly in honor of Tom, because it showed the exceptional character of our students. They appreciate how meaningful his gift is—and, so do I.
More excitement occurred with the grand opening of the Mendick Media Arts Center. When students return to school in September, they will enter the world of digital media in a new TV studio control room and production suites. Thanks to the vision of the Mendick family, state-of-the-art technology will be in the hands of Bishop Kearney students, and they’ll take advantage of exciting new community partnerships.
There was so much more--what a year! Bishop Kearney benefited from philanthropy at its best; we’ve launched new programs and facilities—with more to come this year; and now, we welcome a new principal too. Julie Locey brings her outstanding leadership skills to the position, after serving on Bishop Kearney’s administrative team for several years. I’m looking forward to working side-by-side with Julie as she charts our academic course.
Bishop Kearney’s Board of Trustees has been hard at work this summer, with key board committees working with me on strategic planning. You’ll see some of the results of that this fall as we encourage prospective students to join the Kearney family.
Of course, all of this happens in an environment where tradition thrives—our students continue to celebrate the values espoused by Blessed Edmund Rice—the founder of Christian Brothers. Bishop Kearney is a place where our students can be themselves and feel at home.
That’s what it’s all about—and it’s the story I tell out in the community. If you want to learn more, please give me a call—I’d be happy to show you around our school, and provide more detail on these pivotal times for Bishop Kearney.
Cordially, Donna M. Dedee President and Chief Executive Officer
